Kariye Mosque, formerly known as the Church of Khora, is located in the Edirnekapı neighbourhood of Istanbul. Built in the 6th century as a monastery church during the Byzantine period, the building is famous for its mosaic and fresco decorations made in the 14th century. Kariye Mosque, which was converted into a mosque during the Ottoman period and started to serve as a museum in 1945, started to be used as a mosque again in 2020. Its mosaics and frescoes are considered among the most beautiful examples of Byzantine art.
